Welcome to the conducting of the 25th "Beach Hotel Ocean Swim Classic" & "Westpac Mini Swim" presented by the Byron Bay Winter Whales on Sunday, 6th May 2012

So why are we celebrating?

The Byron Bay Winter Whales Ocean Swim Classic was first held in 1988 and has been running annually ever since. Starting out with a very small number of ocean swimmers, "swimming for charity", the Winter Whales Ocean Swim has now over 1700 regular participants and the numbers continue to rise every year.

We now offer a choice of two swims - The Beach Hotel Ocean Swim Classic and the shorter Westpac Mini Swim, both finishing at Main Bach Byron Bay. Both swims are along a buoyed course with ample water safety provided.

International Swimmers

Local swimmers compete against those from the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The swim is used as an end of season trip away for many ocean swimmers who delight in competing against new and old friends in the true spirit of these events. In the past, swimmers of the caliber of Josh Santacaterina, Susie O'Neill, Jon Konrads, Grant Hackett, Kye Hurst, and Melissa Gorman, have swum in Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic.

2 Different Races

The Ocean Swim Classic is a 2 klm (approx) swim from Watego's Beach, around The Pass and across the Bay to Main Beach and is open to 12 year olds and over. The Mini Swim is a fun event to introduce swimmers to the joys of ocean swimming and is an 800 m (approx) swim from Clark's Beach to Main Beach and, being a shorter event, is open to swimmers from the age of 9 years.
